I live in Singapore, and was born to the Lee family on 17th June, 1978. As a Chinese, I speak Chinese, and also English, which has been the medium of teaching in schools. I live in a small and highly populated city where most live in flats and in close proximity with one another. Transportation is easily accesible by trains, cabs, buses and private vehicles. I rarely hear of any sub-urban area here, not to say rural ones. Everywhere is city and almost the same. The central areas house night spots, offices and modern cinemas and shopping centers. All children are sponsored for general education from 5-18, and we adopt the British educational system. Some areas we have been praised for are low crime rate, clean and green environment and good civil, medical and legal services.
I have a family of 6, including 2 brothers and a sister, who is studying in Oklahoma City. My eldest brother, who was adopted, is 20-odd years my senior, and has a happy family of 4 boys in Penang, Malaysia. My father retired as a businessman, and my Mum has always been a dutiful housewife. My younger brother, my only natural sibling, left school and will be serving the National Service like I soon. 4 of us live in Jurong, Singapore. My father came from a big family of 9 children, so I have many cousins and Aunties, and even nephews. I lived with my youngest Uncle and Grandma till I was 7, and has been closest to his family.
I studied in Yuhua Primary School when I was 7-12, in Bukit Batok Secondary School when I was 13-16, and in private colleges (which offered British courses).thereafter. I specialised in business and marketing, and am working towards professional qualifications in these fields. Ultimately I will take a good degree and practise financial management, marketing and consultancy. I also like teaching, and may well go into it when I reach my senior years. My career objectives are, beside a reasonably good income, also the opportunities to gain varied exposure to the world, to help the less fortunate, to advance knowledge, and to lead.
I am a soldier, serving the Singapore Army since August, 1998. Having completed the Basic Military Training phase recently, I am looking forward to another 2 years in a specialised unit still unknown. Life in the Army is a total difference. Through the arduous training, I have gained extra endurance, confidence, integrity and a positive view of life. I believe these will integrate to form a stronger me in the community later on. Currently, my social life is quite limited, with only Saturdays and Sunday afternoons in the civilian world. I will make better use of the time to learn and do new things I never thought of to add spices to my life.
My future. I will work hard to occupy good jobs. I will want to backpack in Europe, China and the USA. The big world outside just seems too interesting! I will teach temporarily in less developed countries, help them develop their farming and health care, and economies in general. Then, I will settle down to creating a new family with my Miss Ideal. She should give me security and allow me to put maximum effort into starting my own business. Maybe accounting, marketing, consulting or IT services. I wouldn't know. If I ever have the time and opportunity, I won't give up teaching in a college to share my academic and business knowledge with young people. Lastly I wish for a comfortable and free retirement at around 50, when I can tour around the world with my beloved and be active in religious ( Buddhism) work.
